his-Linked Hydrogen Sulfide Locus in Salmonella typhimurium

ABSTRACT

Investigation of strains of Salmonella typhimurium having extended his deletion mutations indicates that a genetic site (or sites) affecting H2S production is located in the region of the chromosome adjacent to the operator end of the his operon. This site is co-transducible with the his genes. Experimental data indicate that the site is also present on an F'his factor derived from S. typhimurium, FS401. Evidence is presented for the existence of another site affecting H2S production which is not linked to his.
