A nonswarming Serratia liquefaciens mutant deficient in serrawettin W2 production was constructed by transposon mutagenesis.Sequence homology indicated that insertion had occurred in geneswrA, which encodes a putative peptide synthetase. Expressionof swrA is controlled by quorumsensing.
