The folA gene was identified as a new member of the TyrR regulon by genomic SELEX. Binding of TyrR to two sites in folA activated its transcription. Mutations in the N-terminal or central domain of TyrR, the
subunit of RNA polymerase, or integration host factor all abolished activation of the folA promoter.
