Volume 186, no. 16, p. 5321-5331, 2004: Due to an error in strain construction, the experiments whose results are shown in Fig. 4B and the second lane of Fig. 9B were not performed with the PapC F3A mutant but instead represent the PapC T5A mutant. The correct PapC F3A mutant does not bind to PapDG by the overlay assay and does not interact with chaperone-subunit complexes by the copurification assay. The other experiments reported for the PapC F3A mutant, and for each of the other PapC mutants, are correct. Thus, the main conclusion that the usher N terminus functions in both chaperone-subunit targeting and subsequent pilus biogenesis events remains unchanged.
