Genes encoding the ammonia-dependent asparagine synthetase (asnA) and
asparaginyl-tRNA synthetase (asnS) have been cloned from Lactobacillus
bulgaricus ATCC 11842. The nucleotide sequence suggests that asnA and asnS
are organized as one operon and regulated by the tRNA-directed
transcription antitermination mechanism (T. M. Henkin, Mol. Microbiol.
13:381-387, 1994).
