   Abstract

Phenotypic analysis of a constructed ribonuclease III null mutant of Streptomyces coelicolor revealed that ribonuclease III is required for both antibiotic production and proper formation of sporulation septa. Transcriptional analysis of the gene encoding ribonuclease III indicates that it is transcribed exclusively during exponential phase as part of a tricistronic message.
