Cover photograph (Copyright © 2006, American Society for Microbiology. All Rights Reserved.): Mycoplasma mobile glides on solid surfaces such as glass by a novel mechanism. The leg protein for gliding was isolated, rotary shadowed, and observed by electron microscopy. The molecules, typically music-note shaped, were about 100 nm long and had a terminal “foot” (red) connected with a rod with zero to two bends (yellow). (See related article on page 2821.)
