All Rights Reserved.): Microbes in the human oral flora influence the balance between health and disease, by “projecting” their metabolic activity onto their host's. In this photo, the metabolic network of the oral pathogen Porphyromonas gingivalis is literally projected onto a mannequin head. A computational model of this network can be used to produce testable predictions of this bacterium's metabolic fluxes under different environmental conditions and genetic perturbations.
