The 25th annual Midwest Microbial Pathogenesis Conference (MMPC) was held at the University of Iowa on 28 to 30 September 2018. Iowa City, IA, was a fitting site for this notable anniversary meeting, as this popular, ongoing conference started there in 1993. The MMPC moves to a different site in the Midwest each year and is typically held on college campuses. It attracts a few hundred faculty, postdocs, and students from the many institutions in the region, who come together to share their latest work in the field of pathogenesis.
The 2018 conference was cochaired by Craig Ellermeier and Timothy Yahr, and they provide an excellent overview of the conference in this Journal of Bacteriology (JB) issue, which includes special sections highlighting work from investigators who attended.
ASM journals support the ASM mission of promoting and advancing the microbial sciences, and these special sections in JB are one way we do that. Enjoy the excellent science we present from the MMPC, and please consider submitting your next paper to JB or another ASM journal.
