  • a The wild-type and mutant cultures were placed in serum bottles with Teflon-coated stoppers when the aerobic cultures reached an OD at 600 nm of approximately 0.3. Oxygen-limiting conditions were obtained by sparging the bottles with argon gas for 2 min. The cultures were then incubated at 37°C with shaking (200 rpm). Total RNA was isolated after 2 h of induction. No nitrate or nitrite was added.
